Cyprus 2005

Cyprus is an island next to Turkey. It is it's own country, but it is a Greek culture. We spent three days hiking in the Troodos, a mountain range in Cyprus, and three days at Polis, a beach town.

Anselmo relaxes on the balcony of our hotel in the Troodos mountains.

The Troodos forest was really unique. It doesn't rain for the entire summer. The trees in the Troodos have to be about 8-10 feet apart so that they can get water from underground. Liz and Anselmo hike in the Troodos.

Another hiking pic in the Troodos.

One hike we went on passed an old mine. Needless to say, Mary *had* to go inside.

Liz had a healthy picnic lunch of dipping chocolate.

Liz hikes in the Troodos. The trees seemed to grow directly out of the rock.

The trees were spaced out from each other because of the limited supply of water under the ground. The trees could be up to 800 years old. They were weird, intense, twisted trees.

After the Troodos we went to Polis, a beach resort. The name of the actual beach was Latchi. The water was gorgeous, as we expected.

Mary and Liz act silly in the Med.

The water was beautiful. (so was Liz)

Liz stands in front of the Latchi beach, showing the water color, and the town of Polis in the background.
