Meteora 2005

Meteora is a unique place. Huge (1200 foot) rock pinnacles rise into the air. Monasteries were built on the top of these in the middle ages. It is amazing that they managed to get the masonry to stick!

Examples of the amazing Meteora monasteries.

When visiting these monasteries, we had to wear skirts. That's why Liz has a scarf tied around her waist over her shorts.

This was a panoramic view.

On our first day of hiking, we found a hollow tree big enough for Anselmo and Liz to get inside.

This is another picture taken at the panoramic view. Right in back of us is a sheer dropoff.

Another panoramic view. It was brutally hot, but there was a breeze at the top. Mary's hair is blowing straight up as per usual.

Liz gets ready to take off. It is the sort of place that makes you think of flying.
